Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS)

TReDS (Trade Receivables Discounting System) is an RBI-regulated electronic platform that enables MSMEs to discount their trade receivables — invoices and bills of exchange — against corporate buyers, government departments, and PSUs through multiple competing financiers. It was launched by RBI in 2014 and provides MSMEs faster access to working capital at competitive interest rates, reducing the cash flow burden caused by delayed payments. As per the Ministry of MSME Gazette Notification S.O.-4845E dated November 7, 2024, all companies with annual turnover exceeding ₹250 crore and all Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) are mandated to onboard TReDS platforms. Five RBI-registered TReDS platforms currently operate in India: RXIL, M1xchange, Invoicemart, CREDLIX, and C2TREDS. MSME sellers (micro, small, and medium enterprises as defined under MSMED Act, 2006) are eligible to participate as sellers on the platform.

Udyam Assist Platform (UAP) – Informal Micro Enterprise Formalisation

The Udyam Assist Platform (UAP), launched on January 11, 2023 by the Ministry of MSME and implemented by SIDBI, facilitates formalisation of Informal Micro Enterprises (IMEs) that lack GSTN or Income Tax Return filings and are therefore ineligible for regular Udyam Registration. UAP enables such enterprises to obtain a digitally generated Udyam Assist Certificate, which the Reserve Bank of India (vide circular dated May 9, 2023) has confirmed is treated at par with the Udyam Registration Certificate for Priority Sector Lending (PSL) classification by banks and NBFCs. Registered IMEs gain access to formal credit channels, government MSME scheme benefits, and recognition as micro enterprises under the MSME framework. The platform crossed 1.5 crore registrations by early 2024, making it one of the largest MSME formalisation drives in India.
